Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks on the Committee's focus for the next Congress and on the role it will play in an economic recovery:

Senator Boxer said: "Our central goal in the next Congress will be economic recovery. I believe that the Environment and Public Works Committee will play a key role in making that happen because of our responsibility for infrastructure including roads, bridges, water and waste water systems, as well as flood control.  Investments in these areas will substantially boost the economy and create jobs.  Addressing global warming will also be part of the recovery effort, creating millions of new jobs in areas like alternative energy and energy efficiency."
